Pork belly wrapped in sesame leaves

Once again we found ourselves with a need to clean out our fridge. Below recepie, really helped. I was also excited to use the sesame leaves from our own garden.

Ingredients : Rice, thin slices of pork belly, vegetables (carrots, green onions, zuccini), hot pepper, ginger, soy sauce, oyster flavored sauce, sesame oil, sesame leaves and roasted sesame seeds

Step 1: Make about 2 cups of rice. Using a rice cooker is our preferred way to prepare the rice. Be sure to wash the rice well, prior to cooking it.

Step 2: Cube the vegetables that you are going to use in your dish. I used about 2 carrots, about 9 green onions and 1 zuccini.

Step 3: Heat sesame oil in a wok over medium heat. To this add diced carrots and green onions, saute for a few minutes.

Step 4: Add pork belly to the wok, continue to cook until vegetables begin to soften up and the meat is throughly cooked

Step 5: Add chopped up zuccini and hot pepper to the wok. Cook for about a minute

Step 6: Add soy sauce and oyster sauce to the wok. Using a heat resistant spachula coat all of the cooked ingredients in the added liquid. Continue to cook for another minute or so.

Step 7: Add water, enough to cover the vegetables about half way. This is to make the sauce. Once the water boils, mix in 1 tablespoon of starch to thicken your sauce.

Step 8: Add some fresh ginger to the sauce, leave to cook another 2 minutes or so. If you want a more gingerly flavor add ginger piece sooner and cook the sauce longer. You are done once all the meat has been cooked and vegetables are easily pierced with a fork.

Step 9: To assemple it all together, in a cereal bowl add cooked rice and top it with the sauce, vegetables and pork bellies from the wok. Sprinkle your rice bowl with some roasted sesame seeds.

You can eat this dish just like this, or you may spoon small amounts into sesame leaves to eat as a wrap.
