Home Made Pasta made by kids

For lunch today the kids and I made pasta from scratch. Not only is it a fun activity to do together, but home made past is healthier, takes less time to cook and more delicious then store bought.

Pasta Dough:

2 cups of flour

2 eggs

1 tbs olive oil

1 tbs of tomato paste

We wanted to add some color to out pasta, so we added the tomato paste to the dough, giving the pasta its red color. To make the dough add the flour to a bowl and make a well. Into the well add eggs ,oil and mix it all together. Once combined add tomato paste. Mix together until the mixture begins to stick together forming the dough. Move the dough onto a floured surface and knead for a few minutes (about 10 minutes) until the dough becomes silky. Form into a ball cover with a towel and let stand for a few minutes.

Get your pasta machine, cut the dough into 4 parts and call in the kids. They will do the rest as per the video :-).

Cook pasta in salted boiling water for about 3 – 5 minutes. This recipe makes enough for a family of 4 meal so I just cooked my pasta right away. If you want to store your pasta leave it to dry for about an hour. Your pasta will stay fresh for about 2 weeks.

After the pasta was all cooked I added some fresh basil and butter….yum…
